00 Gundam waist mod (in progress)

Gyah. Still feeling uneasy when trying to mess with this. I was going to putty the upper half of the torso with the sprue in it, but decided to change it a bit. I’m not so sure if this is a good method either. I’m posting these as notes to what I did as reference. (ugh I’m kinda sleepy so sorry if my typing is akward)
I’ve filled the lower half of the torso with contour putty with the pc-D joint in the middle. I used a white sprue from my leftover of 1/60 Freedom Gundam as the ‘peg’. I cut a piece of the runner ‘label’ to put over the putty (to make it a bit neater).

I tried to think of a way to get the peg to stay in the gundam, and realized that there is a peg on the bottom of the top half of the gundam (the yellow area) I used the sprue cutter to cut the peg off, then used an exacto knife to ‘drill’ a hole that was big enough for the white sprue to fit in.
I managed to test the top part and the 2 halves of the upper & lower torso of 00 Gundam. So far so good. I’m waiting for the contour putty to dry overnight. And I may possibly cement the upper half of the torso to the chest.
I’ll have to paint parts of the torso tomorrow.

Also started on 00 Gundam’s feet and repairing Freedom Gundam’s head. Will I ever finish them? Hopefully yes.

00 Gundam – waist mod
July 14, 2009 at 7:22 PM | Posted in Gunpla | Leave a commentTags: 00 gundam, gundam, Gunpla, mod, storage, waist
Oh what to do with spare Gunpla parts/joints? Get a storage container of course. I use a craft container (used for storing beads and etc.) to store some extra or unused Gundam pieces or PC joints. Its a pretty handy way to keep organized rather than leaving the unused pieces in the box.

And onto modding the waist. I was a bit hesitant when deciding to mod 00 Gundam’s waist. But no going back now, I’ve already started. I hope I don’t mess up in the process.

I used the sprue cutter to cut the waist in half.

Lower half filled with contour putty

00 Gundam likes having no torso. They get to chill on the storage container.

00 Gundam with flat coat

I applied the flat clear coat yesterday since it was sunny. Its been rainy these past few weeks. ![]()

I actually like how the Gundam looks after spraying flat coat on it. One of my past blog entries has some pictures of 00 Gundam without the flat coat on the blue pieces.
Before (no flat coat)

After (with flat coat)

Finished 1/100 00 Gundam

well sort of… I’d like to spray some flat clear coat on it because the gloss dark blue paint is bothering me. But its been rainy this week. =/
I’d like to get an Exia (1/100) model and mod it so it will look like the battle-damaged Exia from Season2.
started: May 17, 2009
finished: July 7, 2009 (waited to put the batteries in)
Overall, the 1/100 kit was pretty easy to put together. For some reason I hate the beam sabers; I almost broke one of the pegs off because I’m trying to put it in the hilt.
I hate the chest because you cannot rotate the torso as easily as other Gundam models like Justice for example. I plan to mod it later on, considering how confident I am that I won’t screw it up.
This was the first time I actually had batteries to put inside a model so it was pretty confusing. Overall, the light-up GN-drives seem a bit weak, or the batteries I bought from Ritz weren’t good. (x2 CR1220 batteries. Thank you CHACHA!!)
I really like how the joints are tight, including the legs. They’ll stay even if you happen to attempt posing it alot (but I wouldn’t try moving the legs/arms too much like a casual action figure toy) It has too many weapons imo.
-2 beam sabers
-2 GN Sword II (can be switched to Beam Saber/Rifle Mode)
- GN Shield (can be used as Single/Double Sword; from what I’m reading in the booklet)
The head was a bit loose on the neck joint, but I tried fixing that by putting a bit of enamel paint on the joint so it would fit and so far it works.
The actual neck that you stick had 3 tab-like inserts. This piece kept getting loose, so I applied some clear cement to keep it in place.
A piece of the GN-Shield kept popping off, but I didn’t completely apply cement to it cause it needs to be adjusted when switching between GN-Shield to Single or Double Sword (mode).
I did not use the stickers that came with the model because I thought it looked dark and a bit ugly… So I just colored the inside of the clear pieces with a Green Sharpie marker. For the GN-Swords, I used enamel paint for the gray part and covered it to color the other clear pieces with Prang metallic blue brush marker.
