Countdown to Christmas

Wow, its coming so soon. On Sunday, we went to the mall to do some very last-minute shopping. It was very packed indeed, and the weekly crafts kiosks in the middle of the bottom floor doesn’t help with the bustling of shoppers either.
I went to Build-A-Bear and used my coupon for a free Holly & Hal Moose™: Our Uplifting Christmas Adventure.

product description: Will Holly & Hal Moose™, the dynamic sibling duo, work together to save Christmas and their friendship in time for Santa to make his famous flight? Find out in our first Build-A-Bear Workshop® furry friend-inspired storybook.

Its been a very long time since I’ve gotten a childrens’ story book. The last one I can remember getting is The Golden Horse: an American Folktale (I think that’s the title…) I bought it for $12 in 2nd grade when the author came to the school. I had it signed for me as well.
I guess one thing I enjoyed about the Holly and Hal Moose book was the colorful, happy pictures and the use of different fonts/text. It made it fun, especially Holly’s mini planning pages. Oh yes, it came with a poster as well.

I came back later on to get a Frosty the Snowman. Not knowing what to name Frosty, I just called him Ice Man. So much thought, eh…? I was thinking of Megaman and thought of the little eskimo-looking Ice Man.

I hope to receive more coupons because I plan on getting the 15 in. WWF Gray Wolf – $25.00 or 16 in. Husky – $22
.

Since Christmas is coming closer, I hope my packages will come. >|O
Oh yeah, the sky was so nice outside. It was very pink. I wish sunset would always look like this.

New fansite

December 19, 2009 at 2:03 AM | In Shopping, Videogames, Web | Leave a Comment

It feels like its been a long time since I blogged on WordPress. I finally got another domain, but its not for a personal site. I got it for my Onimusha fansite, now its Onimusha.ORG. I kinda feel happy about it. Before I maintained many small fanlistings, then fansites. I’d like to try and make it a decent fansite, but not too big. I really admired FFX2.com back in the day when I was into FFX-2. Then LSCMainframe, the biggest Strider fansite that I currently know of, Akaichou.net & Hinasaki.net with their large Zero fanlistings and fanshrines, and BTCL, one of the biggest Zero fansites that has information and a big image gallery. I still like their sites, and I’m a bit sad to see some sites die. (Gunblade.nu)
I’ve moved to a different host, because it seems that the PO.GS is dead, and I contacted the host about whether po.gs is still going to be online. No response. ho-hum, and I was enjoying the support from 2005… I’ve backed up files and transferred them over to the new host.

Unfortunately, it seems my site is unable to keep a theme once selected, so I give up on that. I won’t be updating that site, but I will try to get the information on the online fansites. I’m unsure about the project sites which would be related to Monster Hunter or the BlazBlue Calamity Trigger artbook text.
So far I’ve got some images that I have to upload, then type down in-game articles later on. I’ve installed b2evo on the site as a news manager and to keep the articles in there. It seems so different now. It feels like an old WordPress in my opinion.
I’m expecting the Onimusha: Night of Genesis manga soon, so hopefully it should come soon. Keeping track of the package makes me impatient.
I’ve finished my Christmas shopping, and all I have to do is wait.

Its almost Christmas

I can hardly believe it. This year really went by fast. Well I hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving. I look forward to the holidays~ (gingerbread time!!!)
Turkey Day

Freedom and the Turkey have sure been having fun.

Fabrics
On Nov. 22 I went to Joann to find some fabric. Got 3yd of the black Shaggy Grizzly faux fur using the Merry Moolah coupon, then 1/2yd of brown Davos Craft Fur. It feels a bit rough, and I somewhat regret getting it. I sort of wish I got the fur from Mendel’s fabrics. I’m really liking the Pukny Muppet black long pile faux fur, or maybe the Sheared Beaver Black faux fur at fabric.com.

I still need to finish Tales of Hearts X(

I bought a wigform from Sally’s Beauty Supply. I had a little bit of fun with the Halloween Pixie wig and cat ears.

The mini Christmas tree is up
I just set up the christmas tree in my room. It’s not so big, but I enjoy the festive feel of it. :)

New mask

I was meaning to post this a few weeks ago. Its one of the failed Taokaka masks I tried to make. Made with plaster strips over Activwire mesh and paper mache. I made the nose and lips by taping little crumpled pieces of paper to form the shapes, then resumed the papr mache. I tried making it look like a wooden mask but I didn’t have many foam brushes since I used them on Taokaka’s mask and claws.

Zero Nightshade toy

A few years ago I bought a 10-inch Nightshade Zero action figure from K.B Toys for around $10. Well, after like 3 years, I decided to take a peek and open the box. I’m kind of wishing I hadn’t opened it…
When I got it out of the box, the limbs seemed a bit loose so I used a phillips screwdriver (because the paper in the box said so) to tighten the screws in Zero’s legs. The figure kept leaning forward and the hair/ponytail actually came out of the head, but you can stick it in with a peg.
For some reason I’m confused. I thought the Zero Nightshade colour scheme was playable in MMX4, but this figure looks like Zero in MMX. The toy is alright I guess. The toy comes with removable chest plate, Z-saber, and 3 shots (green color) for his buster.

Exp Con and planning

October 13, 2009 at 1:44 AM | In Cosplay | 2 Comments

I feel this is like a repost…
Me and my brother went to Exp Con 2009 on Saturday. This is the first time we’ve ever been to a cosplay convention, not to mention my first time to cosplay. I’ve never sewn before, so I kept trying to learn how to use the sewing machine in the beginning of September. ha I remember having problems trying to thread the needle, but managed to thread it successfully after many times of trial-and-error. I felt happy being able to sew pieces of fabric together. :)

When we arrived, I put on my costume outside in the parking lot… it was soo hot. Putting on the jacket didn’t make it any better and I was sweating already D: Florida weather for ya. I think I used a sleeve to wipe the sweat and foundation rubbed off. (I’m not so used to using makeup, but I managed to remove the makeup using a Tide Pen). When we walked in the hotel we saw the Green Ranger. so awesome. We felt lost but met up with our friend. Right before walking around some guy asked if he can take a picture of me. already? aw shucks I feel a bit flattered. (I need to work on poses) I felt a bit akward because i only had one paw that had claws… I also saw another Taokaka cosplayer but they were walking away. It was the Black colour variant. Walking around in costum was alright but for some reason my hoodie was not cooperating with my big mask. :( Oh well I hope to make another Taokaka costume and make it better than this one. This is my first costume, so it can’t be perfect. *shrug* I think 5 people asked to take my picture. :) It made my day. And while we were walking near the entrance of the hotel, this guy tells me about how Taokaka’s claws are actually fish bones. I was amused even though I knew about that. I’m glad silly Tao gets love. I also highfived a guy who was walking by and shouted out “TAOKAKA!!” I enjoy these conventions. People get to act dorky and get away with it. Here’s a pic of me dressed as Taokaka (I hate you mask!! You’re a big face!!)

Around 4-ish we went outside to take pictures before I can change into normal clothes. The scenery was very nice. We went under a gazebo to take pictures of me. So while we were taking pictures I saw an elderly
I didn’t take many pics at the convention because I was tired from walking in costume (the left claw made my arm really sore).

I only got a picture of me kneeling near a Kirara cosplay. I’ve never seen a quadsuit before and wanted to make one. It was amazing, and so furry… I asked the girl how long it took her to build the cosplay and she said it took her a year. And her jaw moves. I’d like to make a quadsuit in the future…

I’m planning on making another outfit. maybe Bridget? I can use my fabric remnants to possibly make the outfit. I’ll just need to get white fabric. And I can use this black satin remnants to create the pattern.

This is what I bought from the convention.

Sakura Cards

Nice use of Sharpie.

This is the first cosplay convention that me and my brother went to. I have to say its pretty fun. It took awhile for me to dress in my Taokaka outfit and ugh I figured out that foundation has a tendency to rub off on clothes. :/ Oh well, I went in and I was recognized by some people. It was my first try at cosplay and people actually asked to get pictures of me. :D I was happy. ^_^ I need to work on poses.
So far there were 2 BlazBlue Taokaka cosplayers there: myself and someone else in the black colour scheme. If I could I’d like to make another Taokaka costume in a different colour scheme (the blue/purple or the Pikachu dlc colour scheme) I wore it from 12 to 4 because I was getting tired (my left arm was feeling a bit weak from holding the claws) so I changed into normal clothes. A Pikachu shirt I got as a present from Kem. ^_^
There were so many people that I could probably name it was fun! There were plenty Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Naruto cosplayers there. I was amazed by some of the nice cosplays (C2, Lelouch, Ifrit, Green Ranger,Kirara…) This was the first time I’ve seen a quadsuit cosplay and I’d like to make one…but I was checking the prices of faux fur and it was a bit pricey…
I hope to attend another cosplay event and actually know about it in advance rather than being 2 months until the convention starts. I’ll have to start planning. :)
btw I saw a Bridget!! Even though she lacked the handcuff belt I was impressed with this being her second cosplay.

Things I bought:
-Pikachu fleece cap
-Digicharat shitajiki
-Freedom & Justice Gundam mini figures
-Japanese fashion magazines
-Zelos Wilder bookmark and print (I enjoyed chatting with the girl I bought it from :D )
-MvC2 drawing of the XBL/PSN coverart
-Sakura Clowcards

Mask

With the rejected masks to make Tao’s mask, I decided to try and turn it into a different mask. I was going for either Uchawa or Kanade masks used in Fatal Frame 4 ~Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. It doesn’t really look like it since I barely have references of the masks. I think I need to get a different brush to try and simulate a wood-grain effect…

Papier-mâché

September 27, 2009 at 9:48 PM | In Crafts | Leave a Comment

I’ve made a Taokaka mask out of papier-mâché. This seems better than using Crayola model magic since that clay cracks. The Crayola Airdry clay is good for carving, but it gets pretty heavy. I haven’t really made a papier-mâché craft since the 1st grade (I made a T-rex). Well there was one time, I tried making Haku’s mask, but I wasn’t satisfied with it.
Anywho, instead of tossing paper in the trash, you can use it to make papier-mâché masks. Junk mail, phonebook pages, reciepts, expired coupons, report cards, test papers (maybe not those last two…), and etc. I’ve read that tissue paper is suitable for making a smooth surface. Some smooth thin receipts can make a smooth surface.
